In just a few days, we will be stuffing our faces with a feast built to give thanks to the harvest. A tradition that originally began at the Plymouth Plantation, but, soon another thing will be beginning right around the corner which I am not sure I can be very thankful for. Hollywood East at Plymouth Rock Studios, as developers are calling it, is a “state-of-the-art and user-friendly development will include 14 sound stages and a 10-acre back lot, plus production offices, post production facilities, a theater, offices and an amenity village. The project will create over 2,000 high income jobs and provide the infrastructure for sustained growth of the entertainment industry in New England.” Although this is good for my hometown states economy, must the quaint villages that make the South Shore of Massachusetts so unique be overrun with movie execs and production staff taping down lighting wires? Even though film makers get a 25% tax break, keep the white block letter sign where it belongs.
Fashion, Art, And Shopping Come Together For La Femme Fete
(I wrote this article, which appeared on Guestofaguest.com)
Friday night’s fete, La Femme Fete, was a cornucopia (oh yeah, in the Thanksgiving spirit) of shopping, fashion and art. Held in an exclusive suite in midtown, a runway presentation of vintage fashions by Sammy Davis Vintage Happy Hill Vintage and Kim Last jewelry designs showcased the designers and stylists most coveted pieces of this season. Guests noshed on treats, in between their purchases, by Burgers & Cupcakes and Holly Block. The bartenders from VeeV AcaiSpirit shook the most amazing basil gimlets to quench our thirsts. Also for sale were original artworks by watercolorists Laura Ann Trimble, who depicts the energy of NYC in all of her works. Guests were also invited to participate in “photo booth” style photo shoots.

People Stoken With Third Year Of Sports Youth Mentoring Awards
(I wrote this article, which appeared on Guestofaguest.com)
Last Thursday in the western reaches of Soho, the third annual Stoked Awards at Red Bull Space honored Stoked Mentoring, the unique action sports youth development organization. The night was lead by good-spirited Sal Masekela of E!’s Daily 10 and ESPN’s X-Games and awards were given to Quicksilver’s philanthropic CEO Bob McKnight, among others. Actress Joy Bryant and actor Andrew Keegan looked on as the most touching moment unfolded, the award to the best mentor pair between comedian and TV personality Jonathan Drubner and his student, Erik Tovar.
Guests enjoyed appetizers by Todd English’s new Chelsea hot-spot Juliet Supper Club, drinks by Veev and a Chipotle food bar. DJ Jayceeoh spun dance tracks to keep everyone stoked far into the night.
New York Taste Event
(I wrote this article, which appeared on GuestofaGuest.com)
Foodies and drink enthusiasts alike came together recently at New York Media’s 11th Annual New York Taste event hosted by New York Magazine’s culinary editor Gillian Duffy. Over fifty of New York’s finest restaurants and noteworthy bars gave samplings of their fare to guests. Seen at the scene were Alex Guarnaschelli of Butter, Dan Barber of Blue Hill & Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Masaharu Morimoto of Morimoto and the hit-show Iron Chef America and Zakary Pelaccio of Fatty Crab, plus over 1,000 hungry event-goers (most of them grabbing the amazing 3-day short rib from SHO Shaun Hergatt, which one could wax poetic about).
Proceeds from the evening went to City Harvest, the world’s first food rescue organization. Clearly, no one went hungry.
The art direction in this Empire of the Sun video is brilliant.
Parra’s illustrations live in a bright and bold ridiculous world. Found on Lifelounge (the Aussie’s know whats up), I also can’t stop playing their band, Le Le’s “Breakfast”.
Tomek Ducki makes some dope visuals, esp. these for Basement Jaxx’s song, “My Turn”.
On filmmaker/designer Hillman Curtis’ site, his store is now stocked with some legit things. One being this letterpress poster series by Arianna Orland of Brooklyn. Each hand pulled poster boasts a classic rap line.
Also to note, Curtis has released an artists DVD series of short films and interviews, with packaging designed by James Victorie. Here’s a link to Curtis’ piece on the launch of Stephan Sagmeister’s Deitch Project’s gallery installation entitled “Things I Have Learned So Far in My Life”.
